Frequently, they can’t answer when I ask business leaders how they see the future and where they want to go, they can’t answer. They may have a rough idea – maybe they want more time or money – but very few can quantify just how much more. And they don’t seem to know what it would look like if they achieved this, nor what it would mean to them and their family. But without having a clear vision of the future, it isn’t easy to make the right moves in the present.

So it’s time to ask yourself some serious questions:
- How many hours a week do you want to work?
- What do you want to spend those working hours doing?
- How much money do you want to take home at the end of each month to have the financial freedom you want for yourself and your family?
- How long do you want to work before you sell your business?
- How much do you want to sell your business for, and how will that impact your retirement?
A clear idea of your goal will simplify planning your next steps. So hang on to those ideas and revisit them regularly to know if you’re on track or if anything has changed.
Remember, too, that it’s essential to visualise the future as a reality. It may be helpful to create a vision board or do some creative writing to clarify and fix these ideas in your mind. The more concrete you can make the vision, the more likely you will see it become a reality. Ask yourself not just what the numbers are but what difference nailing those numbers will make to your future. How will that make you feel? Try and experience that future feeling NOW.
